Time Consumer -

he young stale memories of, play the role to your part.
Librarian find me the pole the one that kicks your head in.
To my own time role your own innocence by.
Grab on to my sleeve the one that grabs at your ankle.
Debate to understand that we all have a flaw.
Then fail to represent your life as you know it.
God grant you one wish to turn back the time.
Correct and create, making sense of...

Me and my star, Matthew good night.
You know by law, when you'll be forgiven.
Maria my star, Matthew good night
You know my Lord, when you'll be forgiven.

So they pulled your confidence down with those verbal discrepancies.
Now and then you'll gain what they've lost through a challenge of unpronounced.
Pain is only a pulse if you just stop feeling it.
You might be able to use the very thing that makes us up.

Me and my star, Matthew good night.
You know by law, when you'll be forgiven.
Maria my star, Matthew good night
You know my Lord

Wait, now, here when will you believe?
Me, I'm merely asking you to help me.
When did I say to murder?
Wait, now, here. Please hear me out.
Time consumer, time consuming, consume me.
Down, and out.
Now.

Me and my star, Matthew good night.
You know by law, when you'll be forgiven.
Maria my star, Matthew good night
You know my lord, when you'll be forgiven.

Na-ha-ha-haaa
You know, good night.
And I'll promise you that.

Hey guys!
Jaykuk the interper is here. To watch an amazing live performance of this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMM0_mQGXpQ I suggest the Starland Ballroom DVD if you're a fan. Hopefully they make another DVD for No World For Tomorrow, but that's another post.

Alright so in terms of the storyline, this is the first part of the story told, although there is another chapter before any of this, it comes out last.

First off I just wanna say that this song is cool... Pain is only a pulse, if you just stop feeling it. Most CohCam songs are very emotional, this one is no different. Also I should mention that there is a minute-long instrumental bit that sort of passes the time between the untold first chapter and this chapter. There is a very similar song at the start of their next album.

So Coheed and Cambria are IRO-Bots but have their memories erased by their creator because although they we're being passed off as a Anti-Terrorism team, their true purpose of keeping the Mages in check with their ability to cool Star-Transformers (thereby destroying the entire Keywork, if done on Star IV, the center of the Keywork) is revealed. Hohenberger's dies purposesly, or stages his death, at the hands of the crazed Beast (Coheed in fighting form.) Coheed, Cambria and Josephine are sent to Hetricus in Sector 11 to live a feigned normal life. They give birth to three more children, Claudio, and the twins Mathew and Maria.

The song starts with a bit of an intrumental section, likely standing for a passage in time, or sort of as background music to where a narrative in the comic would explain their situation. I like it, I want to learn Claudio's part on guitar minus the intense hammer-on's and finger tapping at the end of it (I like how he lets his hair down for it in the video, it's like Claudio the singer becomes the Beast whenever his hair is down lol. He usually pony-tails it for softer songs.) Many of the lyrics come from Mayo Deftinwolf's perspective I believe.

I think Mayo has stopped Coheed after leaving from work and begins to 'explain' his situation to him, with a few lies mixed in. He tells him about his past with some tainted opinions and explains about the dormant MonStar Virus in Coheed. He then goes on to explain that his children have acquired a mutated strain of the virus that will not remain harmless until triggered. He says the children will trigger the SinStar Virus automatically on their 21st birthday (I think.) He says that if Coheed does not take matters into his own hands by 2:00AM, other will do it for him. He then hands Coheed a case with two vials of poison and drives off.

The 'young stale memories' or crazy dreams Coheed has been having 'play the role to his part' because the monster he dreams of becoming is truly him. The line about the librarian makes me think Cambria is a librarian, and Mayo is hoping memories of her in action will help him remember her past. The next few lines are saying, 'Hey, I know you thought you were just a regular dude but you're not. I know what I'm telling you is weighing you down but you need to embrace it. We all have flaws, your's is that you might destroy the galaxy, and your kids might do it too.' He wishes God could save them all, but he won't.

So they pulled your confidence down with those verbal discrepancies.
Now and then you'll gain what they've lost through a challenge of unpronounced.

I don't know if this is Mayo anymore. The whole verse confuses me. This interp is VERY likely incorrect. I think it's Cambria talking, referring to either their children bringing his confidence to kill them down when they giggle and say 'Heehee Shabutie' (assumed to be a nickname, not in the song but in the comics. those come in form of lyrics at the beginning of the next song Devil In Jersey City. Makes me think this song is about thinking about killing them while the next is about doing the deed and josephine, more on that in another post.) I think Cambria might also be talking about 'the bad guys' when she says 'they' meaning Mayo. Next line is lost to me. Line about pain is pretty straight forward. The line about 'Using the very thing that makes us up' is about time I think. you could say that all we are is all we've done. That is our footprint in the world. The time we've spent makes us what we are, now use the last of your time with the children to make up for what you've done to them. Coheed goes upstairs and gives the children their poison, then plays with them until they lie lifeless and covered in legions. If it takes three strikes to revert back into being the Beast, consider this strike one, and he missed by a mile.

Wait, now, here when will you believe?
Me, I'm merely asking you to help me.
When did I say to murder?
Wait, now, here. Please hear me out.
Time consumer, time consuming, consume me.
Down, and out.
Now.

Flashback perhaps, but it's Mayo again. Coheed refuses to believe, Mayo reasons. I like the idea of a Time Consumer. What is a time consumer? Do we not all consume time, or is time consuming us?

Chorus
Me and my star, Matthew good night.

You know by law, when you'll be forgiven.

Maria my star, Matthew good night

You know my lord, when you'll be forgiven.

Me and my star might refer to Coheed acknowledging he has the MonStar in him, or it could just be how he views spending time with his 'Star', Maria. Mathew is the son. 'You know by law, when you'll be forgiven' might mean he knows this is illegal but he and Cambria plan on killing themselves when this is all over with (I should have said this earlier but being Knowledge, Cambria 'saw' the conversation with Mayo and admits she had a feeling this would happen as long as she could remember but thought she was crazy). 'You know, my lord, when you'll be forgiven' might be Coheed reasoning with himself that he HAD to do it (although the children likely have no such mutated virus in them), or it could be him getting mad at god. If it said BY lord I would assume it means the same thing as the BY law line, but not sure.

Basically the chorus acknowledges that Coheed is going to poison the kids. Coheed is a Time Consumer because he is waiting for them to die or because he has wasted his time with them.

WHEW. One down. Comments? Did I leave anything out?

I'm going to have to disagree here. In my opinion this is in the context of a convorsation between Co and Cambria in which they are deciding upon their actions.

So they pulled your confidence down with those verbal discrepancies. - Mayo Deftinwulf planting doubt in Coheed's mind.

Now and then you'll gain what they've lost through a challenge of unpronounced. - Cambria trying to convince Coheed that he might have been lied to and maybe the truth will come about in time.

I feel Cambria is putting foreward the idea that instead of killing their children they should protect them. The things that make them up are their powers as IRObots. Using the Knowledge and the Beast entities they could protect their children from the forces if Ryan and Deftinwulf.

I'm trying to think back. Well thought out comment, it's just that I'm almost certain they are in agreement to off the kids. I doubt coheed would just do it. Your bit about the start makes sense. The reason I assume Cambria was talking about the children planting doubt with 'verbal descrepancies' because Mayo said they would end the world eventually but when he sees them they scream "Heehee Shabutie!!!", not something you think the bringers of apocolypse are likely to say to you.

Oh! And they don't know they are IRO-Bots, they are very confused right now. They are starting to peice things together, Cambria has noticed she can 'see' conversation and whatnot, but they don't realize they are as powerful as they are.

But Coheed DOES know of the blades in his arm by this point, I'm sure.

All thats happened in the story besides some real regular-day stuff introducing the family is Coheed went to work and then Mayo told him all that stuff as he was leaving, then he comes home and finds out cambria knows more than she should and they decide to off the kids then themselves. Coheed has dreams about the blades/guns but hasn't used them since his memory being erased and being placed on hetricus. After the Red Army comes to finish the kids/escort co/ca to paris:earth, we see some blades >=)I think he might start losing it when he deals with josephine but doesnt turn into the Beast until either The Red Army comes or when they wake up on board the transport.

That was my impression from the comic I saw online, where are you getting the idea Coheed knows about the blades?
